Meet Adirondack Chocolates

Fine Chocolates Handmade in the Adirondacks for Nearly 40 Years

Adirondack Chocolates began in 1977 with a simple idea: create premium, handcrafted chocolates using the finest ingredients. That commitment to quality has made Adirondack Chocolates a beloved staple for chocolate lovers throughout the Adirondacks and beyond.

In 1995, Cortland Forrence and Joe Dougherty took over the business together with a shared mission: preserve the tradition, recipes, and handcrafted quality that made Adirondack Chocolates so special. Under their leadership, the business expanded, including the opening of the Lake Placid location in 1997.

Joe Dougherty ran daily operations for many years and contributed to the company’s success in countless ways before retiring in 2002. His dedication helped shape the strong foundation the business continues to build upon today.

Today, Adirondack Chocolates remains a true family business. Cortland runs the company alongside his two sons, Matt and Nate, who each play a hands-on role in keeping the legacy alive. From crafting small-batch chocolates in the Wilmington “Chocolate Factory” to managing daily shop operations, the Forrence family ensures every treat is made with artisanal care and timeless Adirondack charm.

Walking into either shop feels like stepping back in time—where life was simpler, traditions mattered, and joy could be found in a small box of chocolates.
